Mary (West) Pratt was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University in 1961 and relocated to St. John’s that year. Her first solo exhibition was held at the Memorial University Art Gallery in 1967, and she received an honorary degree from Memorial in 1986. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is included in both public and private collections. Mary Pratt’s art is celebrated for its focused attention on domestic themes and for her depictions of light and the way it intensifies our experience of the world around us.
